Getrag identification? 260. It says it right there 260. It's funny to see everybody says 260 because 260 is a starting number for a lot of different parts and tranny types. The real tranny number is not visible anywhere on the outside or on the inside of the gearbox. It would contain 3 numbers, but those numbers would be the last 3 ones of the ...Also, the g240 is shorter than the g260. after reading tons of info about the g240/g260 compatibility behind an m42, a friend and I tried bolting a g260 in his 318. After a long weekend of cursing, modifying parts and trying to find a driveshaft, we ended up locating another g240 and leaving the m20 clutch set in it.Took off the pressure plate, then re-aligned the clutch and the tranny slid in like butter. Hooked up the shift linkage and driveshaft. Just for people's future information, I used a Getrag 260 on the M50 with the e36 Dual Mass Flywheel, e36 clutch kit and pressure plate, e36 throwout and pilot bearings. Getrag 260 is leaking - but why? I have a very strange gearbox leakage and really need expertise help! It is a E30 323i -85 with a standard manual Getrag 260/5 gearbox. When I drive hard on the track, it starts leaking quite badly from inside the bellhousing. But when driving "normal" it doesn't leak at all.
